More ties...

Here are a couple more ties that I have been wearing lately. Now that school has started I have gotten back into wearing shirts and ties. I am on a quest to find more colors or shirts and more ties that match them, you will see my progress as it unfolds. Hope these types of pictures aren't getting old.

What a week it has been and its only thursday. I started school yesterday and what a day it was. My typography class seems like its going to be a lot of fun, but a lot of work at the same time. I have my photo II class after work at 5:30, my teacher is new to teaching college but he seems like he knows his stuff.

Class got out early and he mentioned that there was a book signing by a famous Utah photographer at Kings English Book Store here in Utah at 7:00 p.m. He said that this photographer is a photojournalist and was signing copies of his new photo book on Bob Marley. I have a slight to moderate interest in Marley so I decided to attend (pus we could get extra credit if we did). Little did I know how amazing 1. his book is and 2. what an incredible photographer he was and still is.

The photographers name is David Burnett, and I am embarrassed to say I had never heard of him. But he has been to some of the most amazing places in the world and has been present at some the most astonishing events ever to take place on this earth. I got the chance to sit down for about 2 hours and listen to him talk about his book "Soul Rebel" and a few of his photographic adventures through his life. What a great photographer and man, he was very welcoming to the audience and answered all of the questions we had (except for mine because he ran out of time, I plan on emailing him though). I took a couple of quick shots of him, here is one of them, not very technically great but its a picture of a true master.

Speaking of Masters, I had the opportunity about 2 weeks ago to go flyfishing with my in-laws. My father-in-law took us up while we were on a family trip in Midway, Utah. We all had a great time despite the weather trying to discourage us. Taylor caught the most fish, but Ron caught the biggest. I have more pictures of all of us fishing, but I will upload them later. Here are a few to get you by until then.

This is the biggest fish of the day caught by Ron

Just a fun shot screwing around with the new camera

This is our guide a true master of his craft

And this is BJ, my brother-in-law,
not necessarily a master of this craft. But he had fun.

That's how I feel and all I can think right now. That's it for today, oh and a few pictures of course

...its been a crazy few days...

I have been super busy the past few days and havent had much time to use the new camera, but I did have a chance today to take some fun interesting shots. I have been at my monthly conference for SkillsUSA the past two days. It has been crazy, fun, frustrating, exciting, and stressful. But most of all it has been a learning experience and I love that I have learned so much. I tend to talk way to much (shocker I know) so this weekend I have made it my personal goal to step back and let others lead and learn from them. It has been difficult for me but I love it and am excited to keep it up.

I encountered a few situations that made me laugh today that I though I would share will you all.

j5 to Store Clerk: "Can you tell me where I can find your cold drinks? Like the ones in the cooler?"
Store Clerk: pointing to the cooler 5 feet to my left directly in front of me "They are over there. In that cooler. Marked "Cold Drinks"...."
j5: feeling like an idiot "... oh...OK, Thanks!!!..."

Here is the picture of the cooler that I so blatantly missed.

I love chocolate covered pretzels but they have a million calories in them. So I decided to get the 100 calorie pack chocolate covered pretzels in an effort to drop a few lbs. Here is the problem, eating the 100 calorie packs doesn't save you any calories when you eat the whole box!!!!

And last but not least I took a picture of myself today, as some of you know I hate pictures of myself (thats the whole reason I bought a camera, if you are holding a camera, people often dont ask you to be in the picture, rather they ask you to take one of them and their vain friends). So here is one of my first attempts at a self portrait.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I owe you all an apology (the two of you that follow this but probably never read it) lol. I haven't posted in forever. I dont know why but I have just been in a weird funk lately, I'm pretty sure it is because of all of the stress at work and looking for a house, but none the less I am determined to change it.

I have a very generous relative that was kind enough to offer her help with my photography. As some of you know I have had problems with my D40 lately, I dont think that is is because of Nikon's quality or build of the camera, more that I beat the hell out of it and used it well beyond what Nikon probably meant it to be used. So I have now upgraded to the Nikon (of course what else would I use?) D90 with an 18-105 lens. I am excited because I feel like this will help my photographic vision and creative leak as it seems to be lately (I think there is something wrong with the water pressure).

So I haven't had time to process any of the pictures I have taken with this camera yet, but I will post them shortly, in the mean time, here is one of the photo's I took at the Tidwell wedding. The Groom had on an awesome tie, and as I am in love with paisley and ties I saw something and went with it.

Ansel Adams once said: "A good picture is knowing where to stand". I always thought that was an interesting quote but never understood it, I am sure he didn't have a picture like this in mind, but I think it translates. I have the cutest nephew's ever!!!! At Mindy and Stephen's wedding I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I got lucky!!!!!
